It's Friday and I'm Just Sayin'... Target Edition

This past Tuesday marked the opening of Ottawa’s first Target stores as the retailer (finally!) opened shop in Canada’s capital city. Considering this week also featured the debut of 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target in American and Canadian stores, it was quite an anticipated event.

And while I thought the collaboration had some lovely pieces (like this navy and black blazer and this funky trench coat), I didn’t think it warranted the hysteria-level scramble to swipe the shelves of pseudo-designer purses and clothing. (Didn't it seem like everyone and their sister was itching to get their hands on one of these cute and very hotly desired mini-satchels!)

Elaine writes about her “social experience” that she went through at 3 am waiting for the US launch and this Daily Mail article details how shelves were wiped out within 10 minutes after one LA store’s opening. Clearly some people are very eager shoppers. But, in the words of Peter from Family Guy, you know what really grinds my gears?

Crazy eBay ladies.

Yes, I said it. And if you are a crazy eBay lady, why you gotta be so mean?

Bloggers like Lauren from Style of One's Own posted on Instagram that she could grab a couple extra purses for her readers. Cool in my books. She’s not ripping anybody off, it’s a reasonable amount (~3 items), and those items have already been confirmed to specific people. But the greedy ladies who swoop in there loading purses by the cartful so they can sell at 3 times the price online? Not. Cool.

Now I understand reselling like this isn’t illegal or immoral or one of the worst things you could do in life. But it’s still pretty douchey, just sayin'. Why not leave some merchandise for future customers, like the lady who’s been busting her butt working long hours and can’t afford to line up outside at 7am because, oh right, she has more important things to do. Why do you have to be so greedy and grab everything at the expense of others, even those who have been waiting just as long as you have?

So to any of those over eager shoppers who are stockpiling merchandise only to resell at triple the price - it’s Friday and I’m just sayin’... maybe it’s time to chill out.

I just don't like that purse. Am I the only one?

I think it's cute. But... cute. Styled nicely, would add the perfect city polish to a chic outfit. But lining up hours in advance or staying up all night for a $35 Target purse...? Priorities, ya know?

My cousin lives in Canada and they were so excited when the Target store opened there! I bet it was pretty crazy with everyone rushing in! (That maple leaf in the first photo is so cute btw)
P.S. I'm hosting a fun giveaway on my blog girl and would love for you to check it out!

Fortunately I missed the early-morning craziness and opted to go around 10am instead, but it was still pretty packed! They had all of their cashes open though and were fairly well stocked so at least Target was prepared for the rush :)

Totally agree! It's ok to have that business mind but to gouge others is just wrong. I wasn't that excited with the collection and the purse is just OK.
