Let me start by saying that I was never the type to enjoy fantasy novels or movies but there’s something different about Game of Thrones and I am hooked! The production design is excellent, the dialogue is always interesting, and I look forward to a new episode each week. Unfortunately we have to wait a year in between seasons but at least the wait is over!
When we last left Westeros at the end of season two, white walkers were attacking The Wall and the Lannisters won a wicked battle to remain in power at King’s Landing. The third season begins in the north where Sam and the majority of the Night’s Watch have managed to survive a white walker attack and Jon Snow sees his first giant in wildling camp. I’m really interested to see where Jon’s storyline goes and how his chemistry plays out with Ygritte (wildling girl).

Poor Tyrion is still dealing with his newest scar and getting rejected like usual by his family. Tyrion is my favourite character on the show and really makes me empathize with him in these moments of vulnerability. Can you imagine getting a scathing reality check like that? From your father no less? I mean, there’s cold, but Tywin took it to a whole other level. Speaking of Tywin, why does he seem to care so much about a little whore yet hasn’t said a word about his other children’s incest?
Meanwhile in King’s Landing, Sansa’s still kicking around despite Joffrey ditching her for Margaery Tyrell (aka Future Queen Doe Eye With Major Game). Why is Sansa still alive anyway? I guess Robb Stark’s group must’ve kept tight-lipped about Jamie Lannister being let free. Shae gives major hints that her family is super rich and important over in Valentis and I wonder whether she and Tyrion will actually consider running away together given the circumstances.
The episode ends with “the Khaleesi.” I think she’s going to be playing a major role in this season as The Mother of Dragons (dun dun dunnn) and even more so as the series continues. So here she is ready to buy 8000 ball-and-nipple-less soldiers when who should show up out of the blue but Sir Barristan! The guy from the King’s Guard who pretty much told Cersei and Joffrey to suck it and stormed out has found Daenerys Targaryen and is eager to serve.
What did you think of the third season premiere? Next episode hopefully we’ll be catching up with the Stark children. Arya? Robb? Bran? Where are you? Promo is below!
PS: Does anyone else always watch the intro to Game of Thrones? Normally I fast forward but with this series I always watch the whole thing through. The animation is awesome and I love watching for clues about where the action is going to unfold next.
